COVID‐19 in Patients With Paroxysmal Nocturnal Haemoglobinuria: An Italian Multicentre Survey

Researchers surveyed at total 156 patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) at eight Italian reference centers to evaluate the occurrence and clinical characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infection from late February 2020 until mid December 2020. Following clinical evaluation of the patients, the authors said their results suggest that “PNH subjects, either on complement inhibition or not, are not at significantly higher risk of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection compared with the general population,” and in contrast, complement inhibition “may also contribute to smother the clinical severity of COVID‐19.”
