Narrative Review of Aplastic Anemia—The Importance of Supportive Treatment

The authors of this review emphasize that, despite improved outcomes for patients with aplastic anemia treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplant and immunosuppressive therapy, supportive care is still necessary at all stages of causal treatment. Noting that supportive therapy is often the only therapeutic option, especially in elderly patients with comorbidities, they highlight current supportive treatment, including transfusions, chelation therapy, infection treatment and prevention, and the use of growth factors.
