As this news brief in Hematology Advisor describes, a multicenter team of pediatric researchers in Canada has developed and validated the Hemophilia Family Impact Tool (H-FIT), a novel way to assess the impact of hemophilia on families. Use of H-FIT to survey the caregivers of 54 boys with hemophilia showed hemophilia had a decreasing impact on the family as the boys grew older. Regardless of patient age, mean H-FIT scores were significantly different for parents of boys using extended half-life factor vs standard half-life factor. The study was reported in Research and Practice in Thrombosis Haemostasis.
