Type 3 von Willebrand Disease in Pregnancy: A Systemic Literature Review

Researchers in maternal-fetal medicine from Thomas Jefferson University, Brown University, and George Washington University report the results of a systematic literature search that included all publications addressing type 3 von Willebrand disease (VWD) in pregnancy. Among 13 studies meeting their inclusion criteria there were 28 pregnancies with type 3 VWD in 17 women, all of whom had been diagnosed with type 3 VWD prior to pregnancy. The authors’ review highlights the maternal outcomes, and different approaches to management of pregnancy and delivery in women with this challenging bleeding disorder.
